LOOKING AFTER YOUR LOUPE

2 minute read

Never clean lenses with a dry cloth. It is best to use an optical microfibre cloth moistened with an appropriate liquid lens cleaner. Do not use any paper cloth.

Never use any cleaner that contains alcohol.

If the loupe is very contaminated, first use a very dilute detergent solution (one drop in a cup of water) on the dampened - not saturated - microfibre cloth to remove the bulk of the debris. Do not use concentrated detergent.

After this, or if the loupe is not very dirty, we recommend the use of a specialised disinfecting optical cleaning solution such as Sprayclean  (available in 35ml, 60ml and 150ml spray bottles) which will remove any smears used on a microfibre cloth.

Evident supplies a king-size microfibre optical cloth which can be washed by hand or in a washing machine up to 30°C. Do not use fabric conditioner.

GENERAL CARE

As with all glasses it is important to check the hinge screws periodically especially as loupes are removed frequently. If they begin to loosen, tighten them.

Take care when removing the loupe to loosen the head strap and use both hands to remove the loupe so as not to put excessive stress on one of the arms.

CLEANING

This article is the opinion of Evident, supplier of ExamVision loupes

You have made a very valuable investment in your loupe and it has probably become essential to the work that you do. As you use it most of your working day it is important to look after it and give it some TLC. With just a little attention and effort you an increase its longevity and make it less likely to need a repair.

STORAGE

Always store in a rigid case to help prevent distortion. If a TTL loupe becomes distorted you may experience double vision.

Avoid pressure on the loupe when closing the case. This can also cause distortion or even dislodge an ocular from the outer lens. If this happens do not glue it back in place yourself. This needs special equipment to ensure correct alignment and gluing can cause irreparable damage.

On the other hand do not use a case that allows a lot of movement of the loupe inside the case.

If you store your light in the same case, take care not to trap the cable when closing the case.
